Mentor/Mentee Meeting, QPR Training
4:30-5:30 p.m.
DFT Office
QPR is a nationally recognized, evidence based, intervention for suicide and emotional distress. Much as CPR saves lives in a heart attack, QPR saves lives in an emotional crisis. This training certifies attendees in QPR and gives them the knowledge needed to respond to emotional distress. This training will meet the suicide prevention component of relicensure.

Cultural Competency Training (Module 4) Makeup Date from December 3rd

Cultural Competency Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 includes the following elements in a format fostering self-reflection and discussion where the focus is on deepening the teacher’s own frames of reference, potential bias in these frames, and the impact of these frames on students, students’ families, and the school communities: Racial, socioeconomic groups, American Indian and Alaskan native students, Religious diversity, Gender identity, including transgender students, Sexual orientation, Language diversity, Individuals with disabilities and mental health concerns; and Systemic racism. Module 1 (Class was 11/6), Module 2 (Class was 11/20). Module 3 (Class was 11/25). Combined, Modules 1-4 address all of the cultural competency relicensure components. We ask that you prioritize staff who need this relicensure component this year. Modules 2-4 will be offered two to three more times this school year, dates to be determined.

If so, come to this extra mentor meeting, Wednesday, December 18th from 4:30-5:30 in room 302 at HOCHS. If you have other additional mentor/mentee questions or issues you'd like addressed, a non-math mentor will also be available during this time!

The premise of the course is to review the changes society demands in what is needed from secondary mathematics. NCTM formed a task force and wrote Catalyzing Change to initiate these critical conversations.  We will provide time and space for secondary math teachers to discuss key recommendations of 'Catalyzing Change'.  You must attend all sessions for credit in addition to outside work!  Outside work includes 2 hours of additional hours.  Class Germane to: Secondary Math Teachers

Igniting Student Interest In the Wake of ACE’s and Anxiety
Session 1 Foundations

Learn how to utilize a simple template congruent with all content areas connecting classroom-home-community applying evidenced-based neuroscience to brain-based education strategies developed over a conglomerate of 20 years. Effective on elementary, middle, secondary, and adult levels.
Prerequisities: Foundations session prior to Methods session
Session 1 Foundations: Using small group discussion and guided hands-on instruction participants will:  Arrive at cycle of symptoms, causes, and process of disconnection/anxiety, Create a basic strategy in getting to know your student audience/student voices, Define safe/comfortable environment and list necessary steps in creating one, List essential elements that make up a 'pedagogy of plenty', Formulate their understanding of neuroscience, Understand correlation between language of limbic system and executive functions, Be introduced to the strategy of bring joy back in to learning by employing Student Empowering Themselves (S.E.T.): Going for the Magic! Components: Positive Behavior, Accommodation, Modification, Adaptation Component, Early Onset of Mental Illness.
